Who is behind the REACH project?

About this page

This page is about the motivation and the credentials of the people running the REACH project.

We are a passionate team of researchers from the South East Technological University.

We aim at improving the health and wellbeing of people living with and beyond cancer in the Republic of Ireland.

Meet the researcher

Elisa Habluetzel Esposito

The researcher and the professional

I am currently doing a postgraduate programme at SETU Waterford.

I graduated cum laude in Sport and Exercise Science in Italy and obtained a Master's degree in Human Movement Science at the Univeristy of Groningen (The Netherlands). My working experience include: primary school physical education teacher, athletics coach and gym instructor.

The person

I love hiking, running, going to the gym, and biking. I also live with two chronic conditions. There are days that the fatigue and the pain make hard finding the energy to train. On some of these days, I feel that resting is the best choice. On some other days, I decide to go and do what I can. Surprisingly, in most cases, the pain reduces and I feel more energised.

The mental and physical benefits that I experience when doing some movement make me a strong advocate of promoting physical activity as a mean to manage the symptoms of chronic conditions.

What I hope to reach with this phd project is to help people learning what activities are safe and beneficial for them, and how to adapt their preferred activity to the daily and weekly variations of their symptoms.
